An Identity created for SITE Galleries.
I. The Client
SITE, previously known as Student Union Galleries, is a student run Gallery at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), that functions as a professional teaching gallery to bring together the different departments under SAIC’s interdisciplinary curriculum. It promotes students to curate, participate and put up shows in its space.
II. The Logo
The logo takes the idea of the walls of a gallery being like an open and experimental space. The bracket under neath SITE depicts this space. We decided to incorporate the new name change as part of the logo to help people adjust and accustom to the brand change.
Logo Variations —
The SITE Identity also functions as a Dynamic one, similar to the space that is ever changing and always transforming. The three locations of SITE have a different configuration.
Logo Construction & Specifications —
The team at SITE, wanted a text based logo, to familiarize their audience with their name change. I took the word SPACE and interpreted that into the different contexts.
The old logo mark projected a heavily academic image of SITE (previously known as SUGS). With the new logo we wanted to create a minimal mark that conveys a playground of experimentation and experience.
